Abstract

With the proliferation of social media and the rapid surge in user-generated content, traditional news reporting confronts unprecedented challenges. The purpose of this study is to deeply investigate the impact of user-generated content on traditional news reporting and to explore its redefinition of newsworthiness. Through a comparative analysis of traditional news reporting and social media, this study reveals the profound influence of user-generated content on the news reporting ecosystem and the challenges it poses to the authenticity and credibility of news. We further analyze the role of social media platforms in shaping news coverage and discuss the conflict between traditional journalistic values and user-generated content. Using case studies, we examine in detail the impact of user-generated content in reporting on breaking events, political news, and social issues. We conclude by highlighting the urgency of rethinking and redefining traditional news values, as well as directions for future research. The findings of this study will aid in better understanding the dynamics of news communication in the era of social media, providing valuable insights and references for the news industry and academia.
