Abstract

Drawing on the materialist concept of 'connection', this paper investigates its application in the design and production of ancient pottery in the Mediterranean region. By analyzing the role of 'connection' thinking in the design process, a model of 'connection' thinking is constructed, and its guidance in ancient pottery production is explored. The study employs a multidisciplinary approach, including archaeology, archaeometry, and environmental archaeology, to deeply analyze the material selection, production techniques, and cultural contexts of ancient Mediterranean pottery. Through case studies of pottery excavated from specific archaeological sites, the importance of 'connection' thinking in ancient product design is revealed, providing new insights into the material exchanges and technological inheritance of ancient Mediterranean cultures.
