An Archaeological Perspective on the Magical Elements in Boris Poplavsky's Poetry

Boris Poplavsky, a prominent figure among Russian poets in exile, imbues his poetic works with a strong magical hue. This paper explores the magical elements in Poplavsky's works from an interdisciplinary archaeological perspective, delving into their cultural origins. By analyzing specific rituals and techniques such as witchcraft, prayer, alchemy, meditation, and practical mysticism, integrated with theological modes including Christianity and Judaism, the influence of these magical elements on Poplavsky's fictional and poetic creations is elucidated. Particular emphasis is placed on the visual aspects present in his works, further affirming Poplavsky's role as a "magician" in his creative endeavors. This study aims to provide a new视角 for understanding the profound cultural and symbolic meanings embedded in Poplavsky's works through the lens of archaeology.
