Archaeology, as a crucial tool for understanding the evolution of human civilization, offers a unique perspective on the development of higher education. This paper employs a multidisciplinary archaeological approach to explore the evolution of the global higher education system from the establishment of the University of Bologna to the advancement of the Bologna Process. Through an analysis of three stages: the foundation of higher education, the new chapter of interaction among higher education institutions, and the driving forces behind the reshaping of the higher education landscape, it reveals the current state and development trends of higher education reform. Integrating archaeological insights into cultural heritage and environmental archaeology, the paper examines innovative models and impact mechanisms in higher education. It proposes strategies such as advocating for a balance between educational efficiency and equity, assuming the responsibility of leading future educational development, designing high-quality educational goals, and establishing a dynamic education system. These strategies not only provide theoretical support for realizing a new pattern of higher education development but also offer intellectual backing for further promoting innovation and reshaping the higher education landscape.
