Abstract

Water is the source of life and the most fundamental material basis for human survival. For a city, water functions like the blood flowing through the human body, being an essential condition for urban development. Adequate water supply is a critical foundation for the stable development of a city, and the provision of tap water is a significant step in the construction of urban modernization. This paper primarily employs an archaeological perspective to comb through the development process of Ningbo's water supply systems since modern times, exploring their impact on the city's modernization process. By integrating multidisciplinary approaches, the paper analyzes the manifestation of water supply systems in archaeological sites, revealing their role in urban planning and changes in residents' lifestyles. This study provides a new perspective for understanding the evolution of ancient urban water supply systems in Ningbo and the broader Mediterranean region.
