Abstract

This study, set against the backdrop of Mediterranean archaeology, employs a multidisciplinary approach to investigate the spatial characteristics of traditional and new villages in Dan Village. Utilizing satellite image visual interpretation, literature review, and graphic analysis, the research delves into the spatial features at two scales: village domain and settlement. The findings reveal significant differences between traditional and new villages—traditional villages exhibit natural and organic spatial characteristics, whereas new villages display uniform and regular patterns. These differences are primarily influenced by factors such as the reconstruction of social relations, technological changes, and the evolution of ecological consciousness. Based on these insights, the study proposes three development pathways for traditional villages: establishing living spaces dominated by neighborhood relationships, fostering multi-scale collaborative production modes, and creating diverse landscape-level ecological spaces. This research aims to provide scientific guidelines for the preservation and development of traditional villages in the Mediterranean region.
