This paper explores the guiding role of Marx's ecological thought in the development of the low-carbon economy in the Mediterranean region from an archaeological perspective. Initially, it summarizes the core content of Marx's ecological thought and the fundamental concepts of the low-carbon economy, highlighting their close connection in terms of starting points, theoretical guidance, and practical approaches. Subsequently, it analyzes the current status and existing challenges of the low-carbon economy in the Mediterranean region, such as insufficient green and low-carbon awareness, slow transformation of economic development models, lagging carbon reduction technologies, and imperfect institutional frameworks. Guided by Marx's ecological thought, the paper proposes specific pathways to promote the development of the low-carbon economy in the Mediterranean region: liberating thought to correctly grasp the relationship between humans and nature; transforming development models to achieve synchronous coordination between ecology and economy; enhancing technological empowerment to promote synergistic effects of pollution reduction and carbon reduction; building a community of life between humans and nature in accordance with natural laws; and improving institutional guarantees to eliminate the antagonism in the relationship between humans and nature. These pathways aim to achieve sustainable development of the low-carbon economy, providing robust support for ecological environmental protection and climate change response in the Mediterranean region and globally. This study not only aids in deepening the understanding and application of Marx's ecological thought but also offers theoretical support and practical guidance for the development of the low-carbon economy in the Mediterranean region.
