Abstract

In the context of globalization, religion, as an important part of culture, has an increasingly significant impact on foreign policy. Taking Lutheran religion as an example, this paper systematically discusses its many influences on American foreign policy. The core doctrine of Lutheran religion, "Justification by faith," and its emphasis on biblical authority and equality, not only shaped the religious landscape of American society, but also profoundly influenced the direction of American foreign policy. Through the analysis of historical documents, policy texts and specific cases, this paper reveals the concrete influence path of Lutheran religion in American foreign policy. The study found that the values of Lutheran religion, while promoting individualism, religious freedom, and spiritual independence, also reinforced the ideals of human rights and religious freedom in U.S. foreign policy. Particularly in the areas of human rights promotion, religious diplomacy, and international aid, Lutheran values have significantly influenced U.S. foreign policy. Further analysis shows that Lutheran religion not only drives foreign policy indirectly by influencing American values and diplomatic debates, but also directly facilitates cultural, educational, and humanitarian exchanges through missionary activities abroad. This multi-dimensional influence is not only reflected in the formulation and implementation of American foreign policy, but also has a profound impact on the international political, economic and cultural pattern. This paper also discusses the profound significance of American foreign policy under the influence of Lutheran religion on international relations, and points out its positive role in promoting international cooperation, maintaining international political stability, and promoting global economic and cultural exchanges.
