Abstract

This paper aims to explore the internationalization process of ancient sports culture in the Mediterranean region and its impact on modern language communication through an archaeological perspective. With the acceleration of globalization, sports, as a cultural phenomenon, have gradually transcended national boundaries, serving as a bridge for communication between different languages and cultures. The internationalization of ancient sports culture not only reflects the exchange and integration of different civilizations in history but also provides rich cultural resources for language communication in modern society.

The study first reviews the definition and characteristics of ancient sports culture, clarifying the important functions of sports activities in social life, including promoting physical health, enhancing social cohesion, and transmitting moral values. Then, the paper analyzes the characteristics of language communication in the Mediterranean region and explores the concrete embodiment of ancient sports culture in these languages, such as the evolution of related vocabulary and the use of cultural symbols.

The core part of this study focuses on the internationalization process of ancient sports culture. By examining historical documents and archaeological findings, the study reveals how ancient sports culture was accepted and adapted in different cultural contexts, particularly in the context of Sino-Western cultural exchanges, and how sports, as a medium of communication, promoted mutual understanding and identity. This process has not only strengthened friendships between different peoples but also facilitated cultural mutual influence.

Additionally, the paper demonstrates the practical application of ancient sports cultural elements in Mediterranean language communication through concrete case analysis. By analyzing sports-related expressions, idioms, and allusions in these languages, the study reveals how these cultural symbols play a role in language communication, reflecting the profound influence of ancient sports culture on Mediterranean expressions.

Finally, the paper summarizes the main findings of the study and points out that the internationalization of ancient sports culture provides rich cultural connotations and expressions for Mediterranean language communication. However, the study also acknowledges limitations, such as the scarcity of data and the complexity of cultural differences in language communication. Therefore, future research should further explore the internationalization of ancient sports culture in other cultural contexts and its impact on modern language communication.
