Abstract

This thesis aims to explore the integration of traditional Mediterranean art with modern art therapy techniques and analyze its positive effects on mental health and emotional expression. The Mediterranean region has a rich historical and cultural heritage, and its art forms not only reflect the local social and cultural changes, but also carry a profound humanistic spirit. With the increasing demand of modern mental health, art therapy as an effective means of treatment has been paid more and more attention, and its application in emotional treatment, psychological recovery and social adaptation has been increasingly extensive.

The main forms of traditional Mediterranean art include painting, sculpture and architecture, which often contain deep emotional and historical significance and can inspire the viewer's resonance. In contrast to traditional therapies, modern art therapy emphasizes the promotion of mental health through the creation and appreciation of art. Studies have shown that participating in artistic creation can help individuals express their inner emotions and release pressure, thus achieving emotional channeling and treatment.

Through literature review and case analysis, this study explores how traditional Mediterranean art elements are integrated into modern art therapy to form a new therapeutic model. Special attention is given to how the unique expression of Mediterranean art can be used to enhance the effectiveness of art therapy in different cultural contexts. The case studies section showcases several successful art therapy programs, explains the role of traditional art in modern mental health practices, and analyzes the positive changes patients have made as a result of participating in these programs.

The research results of this paper show that the fusion of traditional Mediterranean art and modern art therapy can not only enrich the expression of art therapy, but also provide new perspectives and methods in the field of mental health. Through intercultural artistic communication, patients can experience deeper emotional connection and understanding during psychotherapy. This fusion model provides new inspiration and research direction for future mental health practice.

In conclusion, this study not only provides theoretical support for the modern application of traditional Mediterranean art, but also opens a new path for the development of art therapy, emphasizing the close relationship between culture and mental health.
