Abstract

This study aims to explore the development of ancient sports from a cross-cultural perspective and its comparison with Chinese sports culture. Ancient sports, as an important part of human culture, not only reflected the values and lifestyles of different societies, but also played a role in cultural exchanges. Through the analysis of ancient sports forms, this paper reveals the diversity of sports in various cultural contexts and its role in social, economic and political life.

The study first reviews the definition and classification of ancient sports, and illustrates its importance in competition, leisure and ritual. Then, the paper focuses on the evolution of ancient Chinese sports culture, explores the role and function of sports such as martial arts, Cuju and archery in history, and demonstrates its positive role in enhancing social unity and shaping cultural identity.

In the framework of cross-cultural perspective, this paper further compares the similarities and differences between ancient western sports such as ancient Greece and Rome and ancient Chinese sports, and analyzes how different cultures demonstrate their social values and cultural characteristics through sports practice. Through comparison, we can see that western ancient sports pay attention to competitive spirit and physical performance, while Chinese sports pay more attention to connotation and philosophical thinking. The differences in form and function between the two reflect the deep characteristics of their respective cultures.

In addition, this paper explores the impact of cross-cultural exchanges on the development of ancient sports, especially in the context of cultural exchanges such as the Silk Road, how sports, as a medium of cultural transmission, promoted mutual understanding and integration between different cultures. Through historical examples, the cultural interaction and its long-term impact during this process are analyzed.

Finally, this paper summarizes the similarities and differences between Chinese sports culture and other ancient sports culture, pointing out that ancient sports is not only the embodiment of cultural identity, but also an important inspiration for the development of sports in modern society. Through this study, it is expected to provide a new perspective for the study of ancient sports and promote the understanding of sports culture under the cross-cultural background.
