Abstract

remarkable achievements in art after thousands of years of development, but also played a unique role in the formation and inheritance of cultural identity. This study explores the close relationship between the art of calligraphy and cultural identity from a historical perspective. First of all, this paper reviews the origin and historical evolution of calligraphy, and analyzes the social functions embodied by calligraphy in different historical stages and its interaction with cultural identity. Through the study of Confucian culture, imperial culture and folk calligraphy tradition, it is revealed that calligraphy, as a symbol of cultural identity, plays a key role in shaping national cohesion, expressing social identity and transmitting cultural values. In addition, this paper also discusses the transformation of calligraphy in modern China, especially under the influence of Western culture, how the art of calligraphy has met the challenges of modernization and still maintained its important position in cultural identity. Through a detailed review of the historical track of calligraphy art and cultural identity, this study demonstrates the spread and reshaping of calligraphy as a cultural carrier in the context of globalization, and its positive role in the construction of contemporary cultural confidence. The research shows that calligraphy art is not only an important symbol of Chinese culture, but also a part of the world cultural heritage, which has the potential of cross-cultural communication and identity.
