Abstract

This paper explores the role of technology and innovation in the development of music culture from an archaeological perspective. It examines the evolution of music technology through different periods, highlighting significant advancements and their implications for musical practices. The case studies of the Chinese bianzhong and the Egyptian arched harp illustrate the profound influence of technological advancements on musical expression and cultural practices. The integration of modern technologies such as 3D scanning and audio restoration has further enhanced our understanding of ancient musical practices. However, the limitations of these technologies highlight the need for a balanced approach that integrates quantitative data with qualitative interpretations. The paper concludes by emphasizing the importance of continued research in exploring the interplay between technology and music in different cultural contexts and the social and cultural implications of musical technology.
